What Is VenaSeal?
The VenaSeal Closure Treatment treats varicose veins using a safe, body adhesive to quickly seal up veins. VenaSeal is a venous adhesive procedure where a small puncture is made to a vein. A catheter is fed through the vein up to the origin of the problem. Finally, a small amount of adhesive is injected. This process is repeated until the entire vein is treated. The procedure is minimally invasive, allowing you to improve the look and feel of your varicose veins.
Are There Disadvantages Or Risks?
Just as with any other medical procedure, there are risks when it comes to VenaSeal treatment. Our experienced staff is more than happy to address your questions during a consultation session. Generally, the two most considerable risks associated with VenaSeal are discolouration on the skin's surface and the possible reopening of the vein requiring another treatment. Both of these risks are very uncommon, however.
What Is VenaSeal Made From?
VenaSeal is made up of a body-safe and medical-grade superglue. This glue is commonly referred to as cyanoacrylate. Once in the veins, the cyanoacrylate is quite flexible, which means you won't notice it in your daily life. There have been no recorded adverse long-term effects of its use. Cyanoacrylate is also commonly used in other medical fields, such as in dental, ophthalmic surgery, and cosmetic procedures.
The major benefits for VenaSeal over other treatments are that no anesthesia is required, nno compression stockings are required, and the risks of nerve injury are eliminated. The success rates are comparable to other highly effectively treatments like endovenous laser.
Is VenaSeal Better Than Sclerotherapy Or Laser Treatment?
Largely it depends on the severity of your varicose veins. When you come to The Vein Treatment Centre, we will always assess each patient to see the best treatment route. Not every case is the same, and our goal is to help all of our patients achieve the outcome they're hoping for.
However, some studies have shown that VenaSeal can have fewer complications than endovenous laser treatment. When you choose this treatment, it does not require the use of heat and typically does not need compression stockings as aftercare either.
Because this treatment doesn't require heat, it also means only a small amount of local anesthesia is necessary for the procedure. This eliminates the possible risk of thermal nerve damage or injury to the lymphatic vessels.
